Tesoro Martinez

  Project type: Refinery Maintenance Painting
Owner:Valero and Tesoro
Location: Benecia (Valero) and Martinez (Tesoro), California
Started: 1987 (Valero) and 2000 (Tesoro)
Ongoing

Certified Coatings began maintenance painting operations in Valero Benicia (at that time Exxon Benicia) in 1987.  We have one of the best safety records of all the contractors working in this facility.  We have chaired the Contractor Safety Forum many times and have won numerous safety awards over the decades.  In 2000 we expanded our refinery operations to include a maintenance painting contract with Tesoro at their Golden Eagle Refinery in Martinez.

Our work in both refineries includes painting tanks, vessels of all types, piping, stacks, and structures of all types.  Integral to the painting work we perform lead abatement as most of the existing steel structures contain lead paint and all operations are conducted under the assumption that lead will be encountered.  Several times a year we support major turnaround maintenance projects involving large crews working around the clock in tandem with many other contractors, working together to get refinery production back on line in the shortest amount of time possible while still performing safely.
