Project type: Aqueduct Lining
Owner: California Department of Water Resources
Location: California
Started: January 2007
Completed: July 2008
Project value: $5,300,000
One of several such pump stations constructed to lift water from the California Aqueduct over the Grapevine into the Los Angeles water supply, the Teerink Pumping Station has seven 9’ diameter steel penstocks, each of which is 1,400’ in length. Certified Coatings was contracted to remove the existing interior lining by abrasive blasting to an SSPC-SP5 white metal finish and apply 45 mils of Carboline Polibrid 705 elastomeric polyurethane, required by specification to be mechanically applied.
Certified Coatings designed and built custom high production spin blast and spin paint machines, which allow the coating to be consistently applied at the specified thickness. Abrasive blasting was performed with recycled steel grit, utilizing Muehlhan µ-arc steel grit recycling towers.
The project was completed over an 18-month period, working around the outage schedule dictated by the site owner, the California Department of Water Resources. Three lines were completed in 2007 and the remaining four in 2008, adding the DWR to our list of satisfied customers. |
