Project type: Bridge Painting - Lead Abatement
Owner: California Department of Transportation
Location: Richmond, California
Started: July 2001
Completed: July 2005
Project value: $26,000,000
A major artery in the San Francisco Bay Area transportation system, the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
was in need of seismic retrofitting in this earthquake prone area. Certified Coatings was the contractor
selected to perform lead abatement and field painting on this large, complex structure.
The multiple simultaneous work locations require large amounts of equipment and tight scheduling.
High winds, logistical nightmares, humidity and the famous Bay Area commuter traffic are only a few of
the challenges this project brings.
