Project type: Bridges - Access Systems
Owner: Hawaii Dept. of Transportation, Hawaiian Dredging Construction
Installed: March 2003
Removed: January 2004
Project value: $750,000
Hawaiian Dredging had a rigging
problem. A concrete arch bridge
over a steep ravine had to be
strengthened and widened in this
seismically active island in
Hawaii. Tens of thousands
of holes had to be drilled in the
existing members requiring
excellent access and safety.
Certified Coatings was selected
to provide an access system
consisting of thirteen 12'x48'
truss frame platforms
suspended from the bridge deck
under the arch to support
scaffolding. This system allowed
Hawaiian Dredging to access the
entire bridge at once, greatly
enhancing their schedule and
productivity.
