Project type: Bridge Painting - Lead Abatement
Owner: Oregon Dept. of Transportation
Location: Portland, Oregon
Started: April 1999
Completed: November 2001
Project value: $16,000,000
This challenging multi-year project
required complete containment and
lead abatement on this 1911 vintage
bridge. The work was accomplished
without the use of permanently closed
lanes or day-time lane closures,
minimizing impacts to the 170,000
vehicles that cross the bridge daily.
Modular truss frame platforms were
suspended beneath the structure to
support an innovative rolling
containment structure constructed with
aluminum space frame materials.
The containment structure was
designed and engineered to keep out
precipitation and withstand high winds.
